As the HMI is the only window to the turbines as the DCS modbus is also ran from these HMI’s the PC’s become a critical part in the chain of command. Without the PC only the small emergency Back-up panel can be used on the Mark V. But no alarms will be presented on the HMI and DCS system. From an operational point of view a not preferred option.
It is advisable to replace the HMI with new once before the harddrive crashes, if so the only option is a completely new HMI, which comes with a delivery time as the station has to be newly engineered.
More cost effective is to replace the HMI’s as a preventive maintenance. New hardware will be used and the existing project will be put on the new hardware, meaning new PC, Arcnet card, keyboard, mouse and Ethernet cards. This has the advantage that the existing Cimplicity licenses can be retained. Only a new windows license of 4.0 NT of 2000 are required, which are included in the package.
The complete exercise will use a not availability of the existing HMI of 15 minutes. Compared to the unscheduled HMI failure of several weeks this could an acceptable alternative.
The replacement price tag is as well only a 1/3 of a new engineered HMI.
De Jong bv can support you with an upgrade package, as long as the hard drive is healthy. A field engineer will come to your site with the hardware and the new HMI will be operational within 8 hours.
The delivery time is approximately 3 weeks after order.
